Firefighters are still keeping a close eye on some hotspots after containing the fire on Signal Hill on Monday morning.

The blaze broke out on Sunday afternoon and came dangerously close to residential areas.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.

City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Theo Layne says a Table Mountain ranger has sustained 45 per cent burns so far.

Meanwhile, firefighters have managed to contain the blaze that was raging in the Overberg.

On Sunday, the N2 between Villiersdorp and Grabouw was closed due to the fire.

The  fire started in the Van Der Stel Pass on Thursday.

The blaze then spread between Houw-hoek and Grabouw.

Authorities say more than 10,000 hectares have been destroyed so far.

The Overberg fire chief, Reynard Geldenhuys says they had a busy night and are still on the scene.
