The Grassy Park community says the deployment of extra law enforcement agencies to address the ongoing gang violence in area, has had a positive impact.
A number of people have been killed in gang warfare in that area over the past week.
The police’s Anti-Gang Unit, Public Order Police and Cape Town’s Metro Police were deployed to various hotspots including Ottery.
This led to the arrest of a 38-year-old suspect for the murder of a man in Strandfontein Road on Tuesday.
But CPF chairperson Melvin Jonkers says while they welcome the deployment, it’s not enough to address gang violence.
“We’re of the opinion that a more sustainable and long solution needs to be found and put in place. We call on the respective authorities stop talking about planning and strategizing, but rather apply and implement the Anti-Gang strategy that’s already in place”.
