Calm has been restored in Hanover Park following a clash between residents and Cape Town law enforcement officers.

An officer is still recovering, following an attack on Friday.

The officers had initially responded to shots being fired in the area.

On arrival, they noticed an armed man fleeing the scene and the members gave chase.

During the process, the suspect allegedly opened fire at one of the officers.

His law enforcement colleagues retaliated, but a group of alleged gangsters intervened and pelted stones at the members.

The Community Policing Forum’s Yaseen Yohaar says there’s been a heavy police presence in the suburb since then.

“There are not many activities or incidents happening now. When the police have increased their visibility since the incident happened, fewer incidents will happen. But we are sure that as soon as that dies out shootings will persist”.
