Civil society groups and parents say it can’t be business as usual in the country if thousands of teachers could lose their jobs.
Several organisations and learners had met in Salt River, over the weekend.
The meeting discussed the impact a reduction of posts will have on learners and communities.
They say the imminent cuts will increase unemployment in the country.
Noami Betani, from the Witzenberg Justice Coalition is calling for a shutdown….
But, Ntsiki Dlulani from Equal Education disagrees.
She feels there must be another route …..
Meanwhile, the Basic Education Department is urging parents not to disrupt schools as it is attending to the matter of teacher job cuts.
The department says it has met with all MECs from our nine provinces, to discuss the issue.
The department’s Elijah Mahlangu says they are committed to seeing progress….
