Conditions exist for the surge in gang-related murders across Cape Town, to be declared a local State of Disaster.
That’s according to the Patriotic Alliance’s Cape Metro caucus, following a spate of gang-related murders in recent months.
The party says by doing this, the necessary resources will be made available to directly tackle the issue.
The PA has submitted its request to the City council, and the Speaker has referred it to Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis for consideration.
The party’s, Cheslyn Steenberg, says gang violence has been plaguing Cape Town for far too long .
But anti-crime stalwart and Provincial CPF Chairperson, Francina Lukas, isn’t sold on the PA’s request .
