A Cape Town businessman has been killed, in what’s suspected to be a kidnapping attempt.

Police say the 40-year-old victim — identified in media reports as “Khalied Parker” — was walking down Imam Haroon Road in Lansdowne on Friday morning, when he was attacked by three armed suspects.

The victim was shot in the head and later declared dead on the scene.

Reports suggest that the unknown suspects had been attempting to kidnap the victim,

The incident comes close on the heels of the kidnapping of Akter Pradhan, a Bangladeshi businessman, in Mitchells Plain last month.

Police have not confirmed this, but Sergeant Wesley Twigg says the matter is under investigation.

“Lansdowne police registered a murder case for investigation. The unknown suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested. The motive for the attack is yet to be established. Anyone with any information about this shooting incident is kindly requested to contact the investigating officer Detective Sergeant Amin Qolo on 073 018 1002 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.”
