Attacks on police in Cape Town are continuing.

This past weekend, an off-duty cop was gunned down in Khayelitsha.

This latest incident took place in Cwayi Street, Site B on Sunday.

The officer was sitting with his friend in a car.

A Toyota Quantum then pulled up alongside them and started shooting.

The officer was declared dead on the scene, while his friend was rushed to hospital and is fighting for his life.

Concerns over the safety of police officers in violent communities has grown.

Earlier this month, two off-duty cops were shot and injured in Gugulethu.

And in July, an off-duty LEAP officer was struck with a bullet in the head during a gang fight in Mitchells Plain.

After that incident, Western Cape Police Oversight and Community Safety MEC Reagen Allen said attacks on officers are attacks on the state.
