The West Coast District Municipality in the Western Cape says the cost of damages, following last week’s flooding, may only be known by the end of this week.

Mop-up operations are continuing in the Riverlands and Dassenberg areas, after three dams had collapsed there last Thursday.

A number of properties and infrastructure have been damaged.

By Tuesday, at least 90 people had still been housed at a community centre and church.

For at least six days, the Swartland towns have been without electricity and water.

But local authorities have been assisting with water tankers.

The district municipality’s Heinrich Robertson says officials from national and local governments are conducting assessments.
