ANC Member of Parliament, Faiez Jacobs says he will approach the portfolio committee on Police to address the ongoing kidnapping of foreign businesspeople in the Cape.
But Jacobs was commenting about an engagement he’d had with Bangladesh informal traders over kidnappings.
It’s understood that there’s been a spike in the number of Bangladeshis being targeted in some parts of Cape Town.
The most recent incident occurred in Samora Machel just last Thursday.
Three people were allegedly kidnapped.
On Wednesday, it was announced that Cape Town businessman Ismail Rajah has been found and reunited with his family after being kidnapped at his shop in Parow in March.
Jacobs says the issue needs urgent attention.
“ We must ensure that there’s legislation, inject more money, more resources, and get more expertise. Sometimes the police don’t have the capacity, they’re overstretched because they’re dealing with a lot of crime, especially in the Cape Flats. We need public and private partnership to tackle the issue”.
