A suspect linked to the murder of City of Cape Town official Wendy Kloppers will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court, on Tuesday.
The 40-year-old man handed himself over to the police, on Monday.
Kloppers was gunned down at a housing construction site in Delft, in February 2023.
While another person was wounded.
It’s been alleged that her murder was linked to construction mafia crimes plaguing the municipality.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, says the 40-year-old has been charged with murder and attempted murder.
“The relentless investigation by members attached to the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit led to a 40 year old suspect handing himself over to SAPS after detectives were vehemently on his trail. According to reports the suspects arrived at the housing construction site on foot. They asked to speak with an unknown individual when he suddenly started shooting at the individuals on the site. One victim, 49-year-old Wendy Kloppers, died on the scene due to injuries sustained and a second victim 40 years old , sustained one gunshot to her arm”.
Meanwhile, Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis says he commends the police for arresting the suspect.
“We hope this arrest is the first step towards full justice for Wendy’s family and colleagues, and for the many unseen beneficiaries of the Delft Symphony Way housing project impacted by violent disruptions at the time of the brazen murder on-site”.
