The Western Cape Agriculture MEC, Ivan Meyer, has some tough words for the Lesotho nationals accused of murdering a farmer.

“An attack on a farmer, or an agri-worker, is an attack on the economy. We will do everything possible to ensure justice in this case to protect the dignity and wellbeing of our farmers in the Western Cape.”

He says he supports the National Prosecuting Authority’s decision to oppose bail for the three suspects.

They are accused of murdering Jurie Wessels in Bonnievale in 2019.

They were extradited to Cape Town on Monday, to face justice.

They’ve also been charged with attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, as well as the unlawful possession of firearms.

The case resumes next Wednesday for a bail application.
