Commuters are expected to lose up to five years of their lives sitting in traffic.
That’s according to a report by Ndifuna Ukwazi titled Land for People and Not for Parking.
The organisation argues that workers spend excessive amounts of time stuck in traffic travelling to and from work each day.
It says the report highlights the ongoing effects of spatial inequality in Cape Town.
This mainly affects people living in townships far from the city, such as Khayelitsha, Strand, Mfuleni, Kraaifontein, and Kuils River.
Ndifuna Ukwazi’s Zacharia Mashele explains.
He says beyond the time lost, commuters also face mounting financial strain, due to rising transport costs.
