Housing activists are calling for an extension to the moratorium on evictions, following the termination of the national State of Disaster.
They say this is to prevent a high number of people becoming homeless just before winter.
During his address on Monday, President Cyril Ramaphosa did not give a clear position on the matter and some organisations want immediate clarity.
When the country entered the hard lockdown two years ago, government suspended evictions to help those in financial distress pay rent.
Ndifuna Ukwazi’s Mpho Raboeane, says some people are still struggling.
“This is a moral imperative for our society – to mobilise all its resources, to ensure that there is an immediate humanitarian response, and that we keep those who are most vulnerable in their homes.”
