National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola says they will build a new temporary police station in Makhaza, Khayelitsha.

He made the announcement during the Safety Imbizo at Desmond Tutu Community Hall, in Makhaza on Monday .

Local residents have been calling for the establishment of the facility for a long time.

And it’s been eight years since the Khayelitsha Commission of Inquiry into policing and crime made this recommendation.

Masemola says construction will start in November.

“We know that we gave you a mobile police station, we are now moving to the next step of building a station. The permanent building of a police station of mortar will take some time, so as result we will build a parked homed station. We will then construct a mortar station when times go by”.
