Two Western Cape sites have achieved World Heritage status following their nomination at the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee.

The nomination, titled “The Emergence of Modern Human Behaviour: The Pleistocene Occupation Sites of South Africaā€¯.

Pleistocene is commonly referred to as the Ice Age.

The new Heritage sites include Diepkloof Rock Shelter near Elands Bay and Pinnacle Point Site Complex in Mossel Bay.

The Sibhudu Cave in KwaDukuza, KwaZulu-Natal, was also nominated.

Western Cape Cultural Affairs and Sport MEC, Ricardo Mackenzie, is in New Delhi, India, to celebrate this achievement.
