Eskom bosses are celebrating a milestone reached by the country’s only nuclear power station, Koeberg Plant.

Unit 1 turned 40 years old at the weekend.

The construction of the plant started in 1976, and the Unit 1 reactor became operational on the 21st of July 1984.

The celebrations come a few days after the same unit, successfully received the licence to operate for another 20 years.

Eskom spokesperson Daphne Mokwena says throughout this period, it has reliably generated clean and affordable electricity.
