Cape Town’s Mayor is keeping mum about the details of the additional funding allocated to the city’s Safety and Security directorate.

Yesterday, Dan Plato announced more than 165 million Rand in extra funds to enhance public safety in the Metro.

The money will be used to recruit more Metro law enforcement officers, buy vehicles and install CCTV cameras.

The proposal will be tabled before the city council today, where it is expected to be approved.

But when pressed on where the money comes from, he’ll only say it’s being taken from portfolios which didn’t spend it.

Plato says he can’t disclose the specific departments and figures.
