South Africa seems to be doing much better in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
The 2024 UNAIDS Report has just been released at the World Aids Conference, which kicks off in Munich, Germany today.
The conference runs until Friday.
Speaking exclusively to Heart FM News, from Munich – Trish Karlin, from the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, says the report shows that, globally, new infections have declined by 39 percent since 2010.
Coupled with this, 77 percent of adults now have access to life-saving treatment.
That’s of the the nearly 40 million people infected with HIV.
Karlin says the greatest decline in new HIV infections is in sub-Saharan Africa.
Despite this, several children are still battling the virus.
Karlin says much more global urgency is needed.
