South Africa has a very long way to go in reducing road carnage.

That’s the view of Transport Minister, Barbara Creecy, who has today released her department’s festive season road safety report.

The report provides an account of the Festive Season Road Safety Campaign, that was launched on the 1st of December 2024.

More than 3800 motorists were nabbed for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Tragically, 1502 people died on the country’s roads during the holiday season.

Creecy says the number of fatalities represents a year-on-year increase of 5point3 percent, compared to the previous year.

Pedestrian deaths remain a concern…
